Eiffel Tower by Day & Arc de Triomphe

After a good night's rest, we wake up to the cooing of the doves that are perched outside our window, which overlooks the courtyard. Although the weather is cool, it was nice to sleep with the windows open.

We set out to find a cafe... Well, that wasn't very challenging, as there are probably two to three cafes within each block. We pick the first one we come to, on a quaint corner and take a table on the sidewalk. Once again, we are prepared for slow service and snippy arrogance, but our server is not only funny and witty, but he also spoke some German to Michael and Spanish (actually Cuban Spanish) to me. We were promptly served our coffees, croissants and ham & cheese omelets...yummy!

We plan our trip to the Eiffel Tower and again take the Metro. We have a short walk from the cafe to the Metro. After we exit there is a longer walk to reach the base of the Tower. Michael remembers the area well and he's turning corners left and right and then, all of a sudden I see it. The tower is beyond my expectations and I'm speechless trying to take in this colossal structure.

There are people everywhere but we manage to get a fantastic picture TOGETHER!

We walk underneath the tower and contemplate climbing to the top. My heart says yes, but my body says no. We look at the line for the elevator to the top and it is l-o-n-g! We decide to stand in line for a bit and see how it moves. As we're standing there, we notice people gaining access through another entrance with a sign that reads "Internet Pre-Paid Tickets". Hmmmm....we decide to step out of the line and make an online reservation and return in a couple of nights.

We walk over the bridge towards our next stop, the Arc de Triomphe. From the bridge we get a different perspective of the tower and more beautiful river views! Oh, yeah...and a hottie hubby!

We walk across the Place de la Concorde

And finally, the Arc de Triomphe. Located in the center of a huge and busy traffic circle, we decided to take pictures from the side of the Avenue des Champs-Elysees sidewalk. I have never witness such a traffic mess. Just a couple of days earlier, our taxi ride from the airport brought us through here and I remember that it was quite a scare.
