Musee du Louvre

Today we visited one of the world's largest and the most visited museum, Musee du Louvre.

The Louvre is just over the bridge and less than a 10 minute walk from our hotel. Can't beat that for convenience.

Home to some of the finest collections of Egyptian, Greek and Roman Antiquities, sculptures and paintings, none is more popular than Leonardo DaVinci's portrait of Mona Lisa.

I worked my way to the front of the crowd and got to see Mona Lisa up close, but the area was roped off at about 20 feet away, and that was as close as anyone could get. I find the painting protected by a glass shield which created a glare and made it difficult to appreciate. I took the above picture anyway. Click here to learn more about the Mona Lisa

While I worked my way through the crowd to take the picture above, Michael checked out the mayhem from behind and took this picture of the crowd. Look carefully, and see if you can find me all the way up front!

Did you find me yet?

In addition to enjoying spectacular sculptures, paintings and antiquities, we also enjoyed the detailed architecture of this former palace.

Notice the arched architecture indoors continues outdoors through the exterior corridors that surround the courtyard.

As mentioned in a previous post, the main entrance to the Louvre is in the center of the main courtyard and is comprised of one large pyramid surrounded by three smaller ones. The main pyramid serves as the main entrance for the museum. Here is a picture of the main courtyard at night.
